Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Vinometrics ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Vinometrics mobile app and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy is intended for users located in the United States, which is the only market where Vinometrics operates.
1) Information we collect
A. Information you provide
- User ratings and preferences such as wines you rate and the rating you provide. We use this to personalize recommendations and improve our community signals.
- Support requests and communications you send us.
B. Information collected automatically
- Device and app identifiers (e.g., an app install identifier and device/app signals) used to help operate the Service (for example, enforcing trial or subscription access, preventing abuse, and debugging).
- Usage data such as feature interactions (e.g., searches or scans), basic diagnostics, and performance data. Our analytics are operated in-house.
- Precise location (only if you allow it) to help you find nearby stores and show store-specific availability and pricing. We use precise location at the time you use location-based features and do not intentionally store your precise location history. You can disable location permissions in your device settings.
C. Information from third parties
- Subscription/entitlement data via Apple and Google (and/or a subscription management provider) to confirm whether you have access.
- Apple/Google account identifiers and email (subscribers only): when you purchase a subscription, we receive a store-related user identifier and may receive an email address associated with the subscription. If we store your email, we store it in encrypted form.
- Retailer/product data sourced from third-party APIs and datasets to provide product availability, pricing, and wine information.
- Retailer-provided ratings and review counts (where available) displayed in the Service as provided by the retailer.
2) How we use information
We do not store your payment card details; payments are processed by Apple and/or Google.
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (search, scan, results, store selection, and wine details).
- Personalize your experience, including tailoring Value for Money (VFM) signals and recommendations based on wines you rate and your in-app activity.
- Community value signals: we may aggregate user ratings across the community to improve scoring and ranking models. Aggregated results do not identify you.
- Enforce access controls (trial limits and subscriptions) and prevent abuse.
- Customer support and responding to inquiries.
- Security, monitoring, debugging, and fraud prevention.
- Comply with legal obligations.
3) How we share information
We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Public and community features (if enabled). If we enable public profiles, leaderboards, or sharing features, we will describe what is shared and provide controls. Today, we use ratings primarily for personalization and aggregated community signals.
- Service providers that help us operate the Service (hosting, customer support, subscription management). They are permitted to process data only for our instructions.
- Legal and safety when required to comply with law, or to protect rights, safety, and integrity.
- Business transfers (e.g., merger, acquisition, financing) subject to appropriate safeguards.
4) Data retention
We keep information for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We may retain aggregated or de-identified information longer.
5) Your choices and rights
- Location permissions can be managed in your device settings.
- You may request access, correction, or deletion of certain personal information, subject to applicable law. You may also request a copy of certain information.
- Where applicable under state law, you may have the right to limit our use and disclosure of certain sensitive personal information (which can include precise geolocation). Even if we do not store location history, we may process precise location at the time you use location-based features. You can control location access through your device permissions.
6) Additional U.S. state privacy disclosures
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws (for example, California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah). These rights can include:
- The right to know/access the personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- The right to delete personal information (subject to exceptions).
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- The right to opt out of certain processing (such as targeted advertising or certain data sharing), where applicable.
- The right to not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.
Do we sell or share personal information? We do not sell personal information. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise applicable rights, contact us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your request. If an authorized agent submits a request on your behalf, we may request proof of authorization.
7) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8) Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps to delete it.
9) International data transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards where required.
10) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
